Hel Kevorkian

Hel Kevorkian is a fourth-year student at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), double majoring in Mental Health Studies and Philosophy with a minor in Biomedical Ethics. Born and raised in Aleppo, Syria, Hel worked as a Mental Health Support Worker assisting internal refugees during the Syrian Civil War. They later joined the first responders’ psychological intervention team to help evacuate conflict areas and relocate civilians to safer environments. Since moving to Canada in 2015, Hel worked and volunteered for several organizations and agencies supporting vulnerable women, immigrants, war refugees, and Arabic-speaking LGBTQ+ asylum seekers. They currently work as a Teaching Assistant in Biomedical Ethics at UTSC. In their spare time, Hel educates themself on different social issues, reads memoirs and novels about recovering from trauma, and, whenever possible, sends unsolicited memes to people!
